Dear Editor:
As a relative new land owner in the county (24 years) but one who values it as a special place with special inhabitants, I was disappointed to read your vitriolic editorial this week. Your broad brush painting of people who support NFRIA-WESERC shows some lack of knowledge of their history. They won our support because we believed in their efforts at a collaborative approach. While having certain values they have tried to talk with both sides and find possible areas of working together for the overall good of the area.
The resources in the ground are not going away. There is time to work on ways to extract them that don’t do irreparable harm to other interests. Agriculture, recreation, and yes just plain quality of life, are important North Fork Valley attributes that can be sustained for generations if not ruined by a quick rush to maximize production and profits. A few decades and that’s realized, but the aftermath, if not done carefully, can change a unique place forever.
I would hope that instead of a black and white approach and lines drawn in the sand, mutual respect can be shown and efforts made to find solutions that will benefit the area for a long run. I hope my grandchildren can still enjoy the varied life we find here.
I want to extend a belated ‘thank you’ to both the Mountain Valley News and Delta County Independent for the excellent coverage of the candidates who ran for the School Board last year.
Everyone in Delta County had the opportunity to read about, meet with, or talk to each candidate, or for that matter, run for a seat themselves.
Delta County, last November, by vote, elected the three new School Board members.
This was no ‘hasty action’. It was a deliberate, well-examined, well-chosen action. We voted & the vote spoke.

Dear Editor:
Colorado’s Republican Caucus will be on Tuesday, February 7th, 2012 at 7:00pm. The
full list of caucus locations is available at http://www.deltacounty.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?
AID=168. The sites have been published in local newspapers, and the list is also obtainable
at the courthouse.
Several important events will occur at this year’s caucus:
1. A straw-poll will be taken for president to determine which candidate Colorado
favors to run against Barack Obama in the 2012 Presidential Election. This vote is
non-binding. The results will be tallied and reported to the national media.
2. Two individuals will be elected from each precinct to represent it on the Delta
County Republican Central Committee. These are two-year terms. It's important that
committeepersons are dedicated to the party.
3. Delegates will be selected for the party’s county, state legislative, and congressional
assemblies, along with delegates for the state convention. Delegates are not required
to commit to vote for a particular candidate; however some delegates may indicate
who they support. These delegates are known as “committed delegates”.
It is important you attend your precinct caucus. The entire gathering should last about an
hour and a half. It will also be a good opportunity to see old friends and neighbors while
participating in the political process.

Dear Editor:
Feb 7th, less than 1 week hence, will be caucus night (7 p.m.). Those Republicans that attend the caucuses will be able to vote for Santorum, Gingrich, Romney or Paul. Conversely, those that do not attend will have no voice at all.
Additionally, delegates will be selected that will choose candidates for county, state and federal offices. Happy with the current "good Ol' Boys establishment club?" Just stay home and they will be more than happy to select commissioner, attorney general and congressional candidates for you. You then absolutely deserve what you get. No griping allowed if you don't show up.
If you care about what is happening, then make the maximum effort to take back our government from the "Establishment", an establishment that has given us Barack Obama and very nearly the destruction of everything we hold dear. Either make the effort now or submit to slavery for, not only you, but your children and their children too. This is worth your maximum effort. Call the Delta County Elections office, 874-2150, to get your precinct number and caucus location.

Dear Editor:
Over the past two months, my wife and I have been in Irvine, California visiting our son and daughter in law. Upon our return I was somewhat surprised to see the steep increase in our natural gas charges which is supplied by Source Gas.
In reviewing our charges, I detected a steep increase in the price-per-therm, which started somewhere in the middle of the billing period from 10-20-2011 to 11-17-2011. The price-per-therm increased from $ 0.324300 to $ 0.443500. That represents an increase of 36.75 percent!
We have always been a strong supporter of our energy companies and realize that there may be some upward trend in costs. I find, however, a commodity charge increase of 36.75 percent to be truly outrageous! For this reason I am submitting the following:
Are Natural Gas Prices Increases Realistic?
Has anyone noticed the extremely steep increase in the commodity charges of your natural gas prices? Starting somewhere in October, 2011 the price per therm of our natural gas delivered by Source Gas increased by 36.75%! Is this increase realistic or is the supplier of natural gas to Source Gas price gouging us, the consumer?
I have always been a strong supporter of the energy sector. It is, however, difficult for me to believe that this large an increase in the commodity price of natural gas is realistic or fair to the consumer.
We have seen a tremendous increase in the known or proven gas reserves through extensive drilling and rapid improvement in both drilling and extraction technology. Where is the price structure indicating any of the normal law of supply and demand? It would seem that the large increase in proven reserves would indicate either a price leveling or perhaps a slight downward or lowering of natural gas commodity charges. Instead here is an increase of almost 37 %!
It would also seem the public at large is just apathetic or not aware of the tremendous increase that has recently been passed on to the unsuspecting consumer. What a travesty! I believe Source Gas and the supplier of natural gas to Source Gas owes us, the consumer, detailed explanations of this cost increase.
