Arson likely in Delta car burnings

Shortly after midnight Tuesday morning, a truck parked near the Moonshine Liquor Store went up in flames.

Two hours later six more vehicles, all parked at the Windsor Apartments, were all destroyed by fire. Police and fire officials all agree that the fires are the result of criminal activity and they are looking for the person or persons involved.

While there were rumors that pipe bombs were found at the scene, police say that is not so. Police spokesperson Jamie Head says that officers did detain one person on charges of vehicle trespass but that person has not been linked to the apparent arsons yet. "That person is a person of interest, however, until the investigation is completed we just don't know," she said.

Head said that the bomb report likely came as the result of people hearing the windows pop out of the vehicles due to the extreme heat.

Additional information will be posted on this site as it becomes available.
