The Lady Panthers of Delta High School remain perched at the top of the 4A Western Slope league after a blowout win over Eagle Valley at home on Friday night by a final score of 70-26.
This was the fourth time this season that the Lady Panthers, who are undefeated in league play, have scored over 70 points in a game. They have not lost since early December
Delta shares the league with Glenwood Springs, Moffat County, Steamboat Springs, Palisade, Eagle Valley and Battle Mountain and, with only a handful of regular season games left, are well on their way to finishing at the top of that league and heading into the post season with a season’s worth of momentum behind them.
During the game on Friday night, the home team did not waste any time jumping out to a 13-2 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was much the same as the Panthers put up 24 points. Along with their accurate offense they were also winning the defensive battle, and when the halftime buzzer sounded they had already outscored Eagle Valley by 26 points with the 37-11 score.
The half time break was not long enough for the Devils of Eagle Valley to come up with an answer.
On Saturday they boarded the bus to Edwards to take on the Huskies of Battle Mountain, who had dropped six straight, and once again Delta flexed their scoring muscles with a 75-40 win.
The team will have a week between games and take the court on Saturday at home against Glenwood Springs in a league match. The Devils are fresh off a big win against Steamboat Springs on Saturday and will play Palisade before they head to the Panther’s den on Saturday.
