Off The Leash - 3/10/10

With Paco, special to Mountain Valley News

Finally a blue sky day and lying outside in the sun feels good. I am beginning to hear new, happy sounds. Must be birds. Speaking of birds, what’s in your backyard? I bring this up because we have some monster birds in ours. My cat tells me they are wild turkeys. We have been watching them from the window all winter. Once one came right up to the glass and gave me the evil eye. Then it blew up its body, which made it even bigger, and I ran under the bed.

Spring is the word going around. My beat will be easier when the snow goes away. I did make it up to the Shelter and to The Shelter Shoppe this week. I also went to visit Dr. Martin.

The Shelter is very busy. I met Clayton walking a large, golden, lab type girl. I could tell by the wag of her tail that she liked me right away. Kellee introduced me to Millie, a Jack Russell and Lillie, a Chihuahua; sweet, friendly and just my size. I like this job! Kellee was talking about tutoring and spading. This is a good time of year to think about doing those two things because “LOVE is in the air”. Love must be very good because my people say they love me. I’m sure I love them back. My new friends at the shelter need some love too. Dr. Martin told me that I will get tutored on Tuesday. This sounds interesting and will probably make a good story. So I will tell my readers all about it.

Now it is Wednesday. I lost Tuesday because I went “under the knife” at Dr. Martin’s Animal Hospital. I found out that I was “neutered” and not “tutored”. I had to look that up (probably better check on that spading too). The pen in paw is a little shaky today. So I’ll have to write more about my “procedure” in the next column. But I want to tell how nice and kind Dr. Martin and the girls at the hospital were. I really need to thank them for taking such good care of me. I try to be a good reporter so I asked if they would take some pictures. Now I know why one picture is worth 1,000 words.

April will be a good time to report about my hospital experience and explain what I learned while I was there. Now it’s time for a nap.

Be happy and love your pets,

Paco
