The
Mountain Valley News was first published in a newsletter format in 1992. It has come a long way since then, and is going places every day. |
| Advantage Holdings purchased
Mountain Valley News in late October 2002. At the time, the newspaper was a black and white tabloid. The new owners quickly changed that and began printing on brighter paper and added color. Many more improvements followed. |
| In 2003
Bob Cox took over as Managing Publisher. Cox, a retired law enforcement officer was given a simple mandate: Give our customers a good product and do not hesitate to take a stand. Since then, we have strived to give complete and balanced coverage of local issues, and have taken pride in the fact that we do take a stand editorially. We are always aware of the difference between editorial comment and news content. |
| Much of our news comes from a pool of free-lance writers, as does our exclusive editorial cartoon, which is the brainchild of
Dani Gruber. Gruber and several other free-lancers contribute on a weekly basis. |
| Allison
Gerfin is the editor. Allison comes from a family
of newspaper lovers. She most recently worked at the Cortez
Journal, and came on board at MVN in September
2007. |
| Christina Johnson is the production manager. She is adept in all phases of production and graphic arts, and is a master of advertising design. |
| Lindy Gwinn is our staff reporter. Anyone who knows Lindy knows she is full of energy and enthusiasm. She tackles every assignment with vigor and has a writing style that has become a trademark of
Mountain Valley News. |
| Marie Patchen is the office
manager and the person with the answers on the other
end of the phone line. She handles the bookkeeping
duties, and functions as our receptionist, classified
ad coordinator and just about anything else she is
asked to do. |
| Amanda Green is our circulation
specialist. She also handles advertising accounts in
the Delta and Cedaredge areas. |
| MVN utilizes high school interns
on a regular basis. Currently Kristin Ott is
filling the position. Kristin is a talented writer and
is learning the newspaper business from the ground up. |
| In March 2006, Advantage Holdings acquired
The High Country Shopper. The Shopper is a well-known advertising source in Delta County. The two publications are now complimenting each other. |
All of us at
Mountain Valley News are proud to be part of the Delta County Communities. We are always open to comment. Do not hesitate to give us a call.
